World Football League President Chris Hemmeter, in a press conference from New York, announced that the World Football League would immediately cease operation. The league was unable to overcome bad weather, poor attendance, media skepticism and the failure to obtain a national TV contract. Earlier in the season, the WFL folded the Chicago Winds franchise. The ten team league was entering their 13th week of an eighteen game regular season schedule. The vote to disband the league was 6-4. Reportedly, the Charlotte Hornets voted to continue playing the 1975 season. The WFL owners' decision to suspend operations left 380 players without a job.
